Hamish Ryder

Chief Executive Officer, Therapeutic Innovation

About Hamish

Hamish is a medicinal chemist by training and was appointed CEO of Therapeutic Innovation (TI) at Cancer Research Horizons (CRH) in 2022. Prior to this, he led Cancer Research UK’s Therapeutic Discovery Labs for 14 years, where he directed the transition of the organisation’s translational strategy to a themed, multi-project alliance model that brought together industry partners and academic researchers from the earliest stages of target selection and validation. Under TI, he has since implemented a further strategic shift towards building a smaller, fully owned and resourced portfolio with the potential for progression in-house through to Phase IIa clinical trials, consolidating all CRUK-funded drug discovery into a single organisation.

Before joining CRUK, Hamish spent over 20 years in biopharma, working across multiple therapeutic areas and holding senior leadership roles. Over his career, he has led organisations responsible for discovering more than 30 candidate drugs for regulatory development, resulting in two marketed therapies.
