Ian Winfield

Group Leader (Cell Pharmacology)

About Ian

Ian is a molecular pharmacologist with extensive expertise in leveraging cell-based systems to quantify and characterise the activity of therapeutic agents. He has broad experience spanning multiple modalities, therapeutic areas and mechanisms of action, providing him with a versatile and integrative perspective on drug discovery.

He joined Cancer Research Horizons in 2025 following a career across both CRO and academic environments, where he developed a strong scientific foundation and expanded his research scope. This diverse background underpinned his transition from hands-on experimental work to leading multidisciplinary projects and teams. In these roles, he has successfully delivered numerous high-throughput screening campaigns and early-stage drug discovery programmes across biochemical, biophysical and cellular platforms.

At Cancer Research Horizons, Ian serves as Group Leader for Cellular Pharmacology, where he leads a team dedicated to quantifying the effects of small molecules in cellular systems and elucidating their mechanisms of action through innovative, bespoke pharmacological approaches.
