CRV leads EC technology transfer project

In April of this year, Cancer Research Ventures (CRV) was awarded a European grant under the Framework V Program ( Promotion of Innovation and Encouragement of SME Participation) to investigate and aid the process of technology transfer for cancer researchers across Europe.

For the purpose of this project CRV will join forces with the Technology Transfer Department of Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum (the German Cancer Research Centre) in Heidelberg, and the Department of Experimental Oncology at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan.

Together the consortium brings a concentrated wealth of expertise and experience in understanding, protecting, developing and translating innovation in cancer research to the clinical environment. With the support of the EC funding the consortium will be able to offer its services further afield to academic institutes across Europe. These institutes may lack a complete technology transfer capability but still wish to review their own portfolio of intellectual property, patent more of their novel innovations in the cancer field and seek industrial partners to finance future developments.

As well as commercialisation via licensing and collaboration agreements with industrial partners, it is hoped that during the three year term of the project new opportunities will be found that will lead to the formation of new European biotechnology start-up companies in the Cancer field.
